Good Morning, And Then ...

I had high hopes for clearing skies and solar heat early this morning.
The moon was on its way to bed, and the gloom seemed to be blowing its way east.
The sun was breaking out.
We all had smiles on our faces.
Some of us were too busy to smile.
Jock and I had the goats out, and the potential of a long walk, after my morning visit to the doctor.
Well, the gloom you see had a bigger friend arrive this afternoon, and brought some more rain, which we will not complain about.
So I am in with my knee up (same knee from earlier tales of woe), resting it after a cortisone treatment, that I PRAY will have me loosing my limp.
So perhaps a rainy day is good for healing and reading a good book.
Sorry Jock! Ah Well!

Zig Zag Quilt

Today was a cloudy day and I had a cloudy head for a second day. A weird cold/allergy something that seems to be the rage this week. After sleeping in and taking a steamy shower to open my head, I decided to finish the quilt back that I cut out yesterday.

The top was started in March when I wanted to find a way to use half square triangles in a "new" pattern.

It was finally put together a few weeks ago with Mom pressing the half square triangle blocks till they drove her nuts.

I had quite a collection of browns I had no good use for, and wanted to get some out of my cupboard. Mission accomplished with only a few little scraps left for a future scrap quilt. I used one color (the pumpkin calico) from the front that went together and kept things bright.

Its for my sofa in the family room for those cold evenings when you just need a little something.

Now I have to find a place to put the quilt sandwich together and baste it.

If you want to see where this pattern came from, its in a few places but the one I found helpful is: http://aquiltisnice.blogspot.com/2008/09/zig-zag-quilt-kit-tutorial.html
A tutorial on half square triangles is here.
A link to calculate sizes is here:

Conestoga Herb Guild Herb Fest

When I was in Lancaster a two weeks ago, I passed a sign that said, "Herb Fest".
Following up, I found my way there on the given day.
There were all sorts of herb crafts and foods.
Lots of lavender recipes and gifts. Demonstrations by friendly members.
Gifts to make for yourself to take home.

I even found a plant I'd never seen before, Ajuga Burgundy Glow, so it came home with me.
This was a well done "Fest", and it will be my pleasure to attend in the future.
One more September 11 remembrance.

Happy Valley

There's no better reason to visit Penn State then to see old friends,...but the other good reasons are the enthusiastic fans, young and old.

The view.
The Hoopla!
Seeing Joe Pa.
The Blue Band, and the football games, and the Nittany Lion.

Freeze & Frizz

Visiting Lancaster last weekend, I was disappointed to not be able to go to the Lititz Freeze & Frizz for a cone. I was staying nearby, and it was right on the corner of Route 501 by the Lancaster Airport, about a mile down the road. Development is happening in that area like wild fire, and now all you find in its location is an empty field. Turns out, the business relocated a few miles away in downtown Lititz. I'm sure the town residents enjoy that.As I drove around, I found myself near my childhood home and another Freeze & Frizz, so I made the little detour there. This place was such a treat in my youth, and its hardly changed.
And lucky me - no line. That could be a first. The raspberry soft serve was wonderful!
Good memories.
