Of course, the tops are not the part usually eaten, but the concept of being able to grow the plant from what would be thrown away was quite an educational tool.Lois Evensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11129343619065721588noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6304134318929169046.post-17692391075456122142014-01-30T21:13:27.133-05:002014-01-30T21:13:27.133-05:00I hope those boots work out as Jock loves the cold...I hope those boots work out as Jock loves the cold (like a dog my mother had). He spent the whole time trying to get it off and not helping the injury at all. Duct tape was added too! He hates any kind of clothing as he generally loves the cold weather. He looks so embarrassed if you try to dress him. I can barely get a bandana on his neck without him slumping his shoulders!

A friend who has one of my retired goats recommended Mushers Wax and I'm going to try and find that locally today. I also saw a recipe and its an easy one, so I may go that route if all else fails.

Thanks for the suggestion, and with more single digits on its way, I may look into the boots some more. I see some research coming my way.Deere Driverhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09797776241387092512noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6304134318929169046.post-69245044605273484992014-01-27T15:04:33.673-05:002014-01-27T15:04:33.673-05:00I read about Jocks feet - Have you tried booties -...I read about Jocks feet - Have you tried booties - the kind they make for racing huskies? Your post is great for providing ideas.

We have had three compost bins (rare, medium, well done) for longer than it has been the cool thing to do. We put all of our kitchen scraps out there and don't make any attempt to save most seeds. Sometimes an especially wonderful tomato, pepper, or pumpkin will provide seeds we'll dry and plant, but most of the stuff just goes in the compost bin. Then later we have some real treats! We will find tomatoes growing among the roses (were I have put finished compost), and other wonderful things popping up. It becomes a fun game.Lois Evensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11129343619065721588noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6304134318929169046.post-49174364761187081022014-01-21T15:16:55.223-05:002014-01-21T15:16:55.223-05:00Thanks for stopping by. Yipes!

Yes, there's still a toll to get onto Jekyll Island. The state spend about $50 million a few years ago upgrading facilities. However, it seems like the legislature is going to open up about 100 acres to development, mostly along the beaches. So far, conservations are okay with this . . . knowing Southern politics like I do, I'm a bit queasy about it . . . once a door opens, lots of fools usually rush in. I'd hate to see JI go the route of St. Simons. On another front, we'd planned to stay a night at Savannah but left -- the Historic District is a mess -- broken beer/wine bottles on sidewalks, litter everywhere and so on -- We ended up in Charleston . . . the Historic District is pristine but was very disappointed at haw far South Carolina had slipped in general. Traveling state/county roads was more like passing through a never-ending slum in the making, horrible, absolutely horrible. If SC were a country, it would be a failed state. (Sales tax in Beaufort County is 13.5%, effectively adding to the obvious poverty in both races -- with officials thinking of raising it to 14%.)Kittie Howardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07756250649095903317noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6304134318929169046.post-84253583906848397082014-01-21T14:52:37.135-05:002014-01-21T14:52:37.135-05:00And already new problems arise. Such a sad, sad day!

It's probably more because I leaned more toward catching posts as they popped on my screen, but for some odd reason thought your blog had closed. Sorry, my bad!! I must admit, I read your previous posts with a certain nostalgia. I so enjoyed your photos, how beautiful your farm was during the various seasons and felt motivated when I read about all you did. Remember Brees? He must be a great-grandfather by now! But you did what you had to do and are now in another beautiful part of the country. New adventures await!

We spent July and August in Europe (Italy and France). I could sooooo relate to your photos and everything you wrote. The closest I can come to the tomatoes used in Italian sauces is at Whole Foods. I believe they're under the Cento label -- but be sure and look for San Marzano Tomatoes on the front label. (Pomi makes a sauce as well from them.) Anyway, the taste is pretty much salt free and sugar free, the real thing. Please google these tomatoes as to why they're great -- too much for here.

I'll check out what the new owners are doing later . . .Kittie Howardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07756250649095903317noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6304134318929169046.post-19047450903532069042013-09-11T02:09:24.568-04:002013-09-11T02:09:24.568-04:00Cool!Cool!Celinahttp://themeatgrinders.info/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6304134318929169046.post-49578637006271968512013-07-26T22:45:27.776-04:002013-07-26T22:45:27.776-04:00I love the healthy snacks in the subway stations. ...I love the healthy snacks in the subway stations.
