Wet and Happy Fourth of July

 Happy Independence Day Friends!
Its raining and cool and we love it, and the gardens love it.
Its the heat break and rain that we needed.
Hurricane Arthur has cancelled all the fireworks around here till tomorrow, but our little firecracker is having fun in the rain and puddles. A town event for children had great attendance in spite of rain that poured at times. You would have thought that playing in the rain was a planned activity.

All the animals in the barn at Northwest Park in Windsor were visited and spoken to(Baa! Quack! Etc.) and then we got to the car before the next deluge for the ride home.

Have a great holiday!

More Fourth on the Fifth

Things are quiet today with many people back to work. Hope your holiday was enjoyable - festive - fun!

Louvregirl's comment on my Fourth blog below reminded me of something I kind of forgot in my late night (early morning) posting. My little world has many folks who really enjoy shooting fireworks, so we have been hearing a few, or many, since Thursday, when the holiday unofficially began here. I live behind the very old and famous Idlewild Park, and from On the Pond we can see the park's Fourth display.
For two years now, we have had a neighbor doing their own "after show" that really competes with the park. I think they are the ones who, before their display commenced, began to play some music. At first folks along the pond were talking, then hushing to try and figure out what the music was. Soon we realized it was a lovely a Capella version of the Star Spangled Banner. Everyone became quiet to listen, and it became such a
nice respectful moment on such a boisterous evening. The bull frogs were the only accompaniment, with an occasional attempt to sing along. For a moment, I think we all remembered what we were celebrating.

Happy Fourth of July And Happy Birthday Gramps!

We had a long and enjoyable week end with family and neighbors this long Independence Day week-end. Happy Birthday to Gramps and thanks to Debbie for a fantastic feast and family gathering!
I hope everyone was able to join with the ones they love in this celebration of country and our freedoms and privileges.

Hot and Blooming Busy

Lots of company this past week-end and lots of projects pursued. The vase of wildflowers is the remnant from our late evening dinner right before the Sunday fireworks. Picked from the fields, they were beautifully arranged by my daughter.

The fireworks lasted two days, and as I got to the pond to watch the display from Idlewild Park, my camera battery was dead. The night was beautifully clear, and the company appreciative of the show. Even the bull frogs piped in their comments from the pond. The neighbors also had some lovely displays, as did many in the community. We could see many shows along the hills and skyline from miles around. Our 4th is taken very seriously by the pyrotechnic fans.

Wish you could have been here! Maybe next year.

Leftovers

"You're making too much food." I always hear this while preparing for holidays and gatheringsLeftover flowers from the garden and field.

There is no such thing. It all gets eaten within a couple of lunches and dinners, and before you know it, time to cook again. Plus you get to send goodies home with other busy people, so that they can skip a day over the stove, or at a fast food place.
This was the packed fridge about 7PM on the 4th of July.

I love leftovers, especially on busy week-ends. You know something good will be waiting for you after a long day outside, and there will be little effort in having to prepare it.
Not even a day later, there is space opening up in the fridge, and by dinner, we'll be in great shape. The corn I cut off the cob is going to become corn "chowda" tomorrow. Yumm!

Happy Fourth from the Pond

We took our adult beverages, chairs and blankets to meet the neighbors up on the pond.
Idlewild Park has its annual fireworks...

but the neighborhood fireworks stole the night.
