One of the new flowers I was introduced to in our move to Western Pennsylvania is Joe-Pye Weed. What a name! 
Joe Pye is alleged to have been a Native American healer who used the plant to treat typhoid fever.http://www.sierrapotomac.org/W_Needham/JoePyeWeed_060822.htm
It grows around our pond and in our fields like a weed, but really its a wildflower. It gets quite tall and is very attractive to butterflies, as you can see. The swallowtails are quite abundant right now.

We have a garden variety of Joe Pye in our front perennial bed, and I really like it. It's actually one of the few perennials in that bed I'll make a home for when we redo the front yard. :)
