Fall Invasion

In past years I wondered what all the fuss was about. Stink bugs really were making the news, but we barely saw one here. This summer a few started to show up here and there, but mostly out on my tomatoes. Now they have started to sneak into the house. This particular one was quite the large and healthy armored body. I got him out the door on the first magazine I could find. I can't say we have a real problem yet, but I am careful to get them out the door without helping them release their stink. I probably should be doing them in.

The other invader seems to be a bit bigger.
I'd say we have mice in the barn.
No kidding, you say. Well, this is the first time we have seen evidence around the feed. We try to keep things tight, but these tiny crumbs in the containers we use to carry grain to the stalls were enough attraction. We are being more diligent about emptying every crumb and tipping the containers up side down now. The cats have been told to ramp up their patrols.

Sun and Snow

Bringing in the New Year, the snow pretty much disappeared, but not the cold. The break from all the snowy, cloudy days, let the sun melt the surfaces during the day, and brighten the mood.Under the snow, things were still a bit green, and the goats enjoyed wandering the fields to see what they could find, but they enjoyed their first Christmas tree recycle too.OK. We had one day above freezing, but that was short lived as the frozen water buckets showed us. We happily unplugged them to save on the electric bill. Didn't last 24 hours. These are the buckets inside the barn too.
The ice stayed thick on the pond, and now we could see that there were other creatures living there, by the tunnels they left behind. Now I think I understand why the barn cats enjoy the pond area so much. The chickens have barely seen the outdoors since Thanksgiving, but that doesn't mean they haven't seen the sun. They know how to use solar heat on these frigid days. Today the snow was back and deep enough to need the tractor to clear the lane. The winds are bitter, and more severe weather is in tomorrow's forecast. I just hope the pregnant ladies are smart enough to wait for a break in this weather - if there is one.

Snow Busy, Christmas Busy

You know how it is.
All the Christmas prep.
The usual routine still there. Buckets to fill. Barn to clean.
Then the daily snow complicates things. I am not tolerating this cold too well.
Lucky for me, my neighbor Karen chose the one nice day to deliver her fall decorations for goat treats.
Then we had a glass of wine for my birthday. Both the gimp knee and the rotator cuff are acting up, so its back to PT for the shoulder for now. Who needs to walk!At least the three showing goats are giving me good humor. We got hay this week-end. Had to wait for a dry day. Visited Jake and his big friends. That's the catch up folks.
More cards to write. Recipes to create (Mouse Tartare?).
Beds to make.....Oh! And the birthday cupcake at the Christmas Dinner at the casino last Saturday.
Nice presentation.
Cake? Eh!

Barter

OK.
This is how it works. I give you something nice, and you give me something back.
